His Eminence Archbishop of Canada, Mr. Sotirios, met with Mr. Mark Carney, Prime Minister of Canada, at the Cultural Centre of the Holy Archdiocese on Friday, April 4, 2025.

His Eminence congratulated Mr. Carney on assuming his duties as the twenty-fourth Prime Minister of Canada last month. Archbishop Sotirios briefly presented the course of the Orthodox Church in Canada, as well as issues related to the Ecumenical Patriarchate.

The Prime Minister participated in a cordial discussion, and the Archdiocese expressed warm thanks for his gracious and meaningful presence.

His Eminence offered the Prime Minister an icon that includes his patron Saint, Apostle and Evangelist Mark. Mr. Carney expressed his gratitude for the gift and referred to the season of Great Lent, as we move towards Holy Easter.

His Eminence was accompanied by His Eminence Fr. Evangelos Athanasoulas, Priestly Superior of St. Nicholas Cathedral, His Eminence Mr. Evangelos Sotiropoulos, President of the Archons of the Ecumenical Patriarchate in Canada, and Ms. Anastasia Sotiropoulou, President of the Community Council of St. Nicholas Cathedral.

Before his departure, Archbishop Mr. Sotirios thanked Prime Minister Mr. Carney and wished him, as well as all elected officials, strength and wisdom in their work to protect and promote the interests of this wonderful country we call Canada.

His Eminence then proceeded to the Holy Church of Saints Panteleimon, Anne and Paraskevi in ​​Markham for the devout Service of the Akathist Hymn to the Most Holy Theotokos.
