The New York City Parade Committee meets on Thursday

Featured The New York City Parade Committee meets on Thursday

On April 24, 2025 at 7:00 p.m., the New York City Parade Committee will meet at the Stathakion Cultural Center in Astoria under the chairmanship of Philip Christopher. This is the established meeting after the parade.

The chairman of the Parade Committee, Mr. Philip Christopher, clarified to Anamniseis.com  that the committee did not stop working for a minute even after the conclusion of the March 30 parade, because they must communicate with the sponsors, donors and benefactors of the parade in order to fulfill their promises and proceed with the financial accounting of the parade.

During this meeting, the first report will be made not only on the financial aspects, but also on the other aspects of the events for the 204th anniversary of Greek Independence, and the day of convening the pan-family gathering will be decided, in the context of which the report and the findings of the committee will be made public.

The Parade Committee, under the chairmanship of Mr. Philip Christopher, has managed for three consecutive years to organize high-level parades and to achieve the financial goals, despite the adverse conditions that have been created due to the civil strife that has prevailed for the last four years within the Federation of Greek Societies of Greater New York.

Mr. Philip Christopher had repeatedly stated that after the end of his term he would step down as chairman of the Parade Committee and that he would fight and continue to fight for a resolution to the crisis and for the holding of commonly accepted elections.

Lou Katsos to take the reins of the 2025 Parade Committee

Although the term of the 2025 Parade Committee has not expired, the two administrations of the Federation of Greek Societies of Greater New York – the first under the presidency of the Municipality of Siokis and which has held the keys to the Stathakios Cultural Center in Astoria and the second, the exiled administration under the presidency of Nomiki Kastana – have individually decided to hand over the reins of the Parade Committee to Mr. Lou Katsos.

It is the first time in the history of the New York community that the successor to the Parade Committee has been appointed approximately four days after the end of the parade and before the preliminary financial report has even been made.

Although the announcements of both leaderships make no mention of the reasons that led them to their premature decision, those who know the mentality of the leaders of the Federation of Greek Associations of Greater New York, fully understand that it is related to President Philip Christopher.

This is because Mr. Christopher had repeatedly stated that after the end of the parade, the drawing of the lottery and the completion of the financial report, he would seek a new round of negotiations with both sides with the aim of preparing the Federation for commonly accepted elections.

Ilias "Lou" Katsos, through a Facebook post, expressed his satisfaction at the fact that he enjoys the trust of both warring leaderships.
