The disappearance of 29-year-old Greek American Petros Krommydas, whose traces were lost on Wednesday night from Nassau County in Long Island, New York, has alarmed the diaspora community.

According to the Daily Mail, police continue their efforts to locate the missing New York Democratic candidate, after his clothes and car were mysteriously found on a beach.

Petros Krommydas was last seen on Wednesday, just two days after attending the monthly meeting of the Nassau County New Democrats. He is running for the legislative seat in Nassau County's fourth district and has served as the party's organizer since December.

According to Nassau County police, the 29-year-old was last seen in Baldwin on Wednesday at 9 p.m. Greek time and was reported missing about twenty-four hours later, on Thursday at 7:35 p.m.

Krommydas' car was found parked near the "Allegria" hotel on the Long Beach boardwalk and his clothes were found on the beach, according to Newsday.

His mother's anguished post - appeal for help -

His mother Maria wrote in a Facebook post that the aspiring politician was preparing for triathlon competitions and went to the beach for training on Wednesday night.

"He locked his car, grabbed a towel and around 10:30 p.m. went out to the beach to work out, as he used to do many times," she said. “He was always in great shape and was training for a triathlon. He was used to training in cold water.”

“It’s completely unusual for him not to answer phone calls.”

His family reported him missing the day after he went missing, after failing to contact him, and “it’s completely unusual for him not to answer phone calls from his family.”

“On Thursday, April 24, police found his towel, clothes and phone abandoned on the beach. Since then, search efforts have continued, but we need the public’s help,” Maria said.

The Krommydas family has organized search teams for the coming days, which will focus their searches on Long Beach, Lido Beach and Jacob Riis Park.
