The next event of the “Rebrain Greece” action will be held in New York, as announced by the Minister of Labor and Social Security, Niki Kerameus, speaking at an event of the Ministry, entitled “building “bridges” between human resources and the labor market”, in the presence of the Prime Minister, Kyriakos Mitsotakis.
The event in New York, which will take place on December 7, 2025, is an opportunity for Greeks abroad to learn about the professional prospects that exist in Greece and to network with Greek businesses that are looking for specialized personnel.
A total of 44 “Career Days” have been held in 18 cities in Greece, as a result of which thousands of citizens have found jobs through these events
As stated by Ms. Kerameos, the effective matching of supply and demand in the labor market is a top priority of the Ministry of Labor, with the aim of creating “bridges” between valuable human resources and businesses both in Greece and abroad.
An indicative example is the “Career Days” of the Public Employment Service (DYPA). As she said, since the start of their implementation, 44 “Career Days” have been held in 18 cities in Greece, with the result that thousands of citizens have found work through these events, which continue at regular intervals.
“Hundreds of businesses participating in the “Career Days” are looking for staff and thousands of our fellow citizens come to find work. The Ministry of Labor and DYPA are paving the way for supply and demand to come together,” emphasized the Minister of Labor.
Such actions, however, are not limited to Greece.
Kerameus: “Bridges of Return”
With the aim of reversing the brain drain, the Ministry of Labor is building “bridges of return” with Greeks abroad.
In this context, as Ms. Kerameus underlined, four events were recently held in Amsterdam, Düsseldorf, Stuttgart and London, with the participation of Greek businesses and an open invitation to Greeks abroad, in order to learn about the modern possibilities of the Greek labor market.
“Some of the Greeks abroad may not have even thought about returning, others may be determined. Our job, however, is to highlight the Greece of today, which has nothing to do with the Greece they left behind when they left in search of a better professional opportunity,” commented the Minister of Labor.
At the same time, Ms. Kerameus noted that boosting employment and further reducing unemployment are strategic objectives of the Ministry of Labor and Social Security and added that, through a coherent framework of actions, the Ministry implements targeted policies that respond to the modern needs of the labor market and strengthen social cohesion.
For example, as he mentioned, the Ministry seeks to boost employment in population groups with room for improvement in employment, such as women, young people and people with disabilities.
At the same time, special emphasis is placed on upskilling and reskilling of the workforce, as well as on vocational education and training.
According to Ms. Kerameus, government policies are bringing tangible results, as, based on official data from April 2025, unemployment in Greece stood at 8.3%, the lowest rate in the last 17 years, compared to 17.8%, which was recorded at the beginning of the current government's term.
Also, in April 2025, 134,000 new jobs were created, "a record performance in the history of the Greek state".
On the other hand, as she noted, Eurostat data reflect the gradual reversal of the brain drain. As the data shows, from 2010 to 2023, approximately 660,000 citizens left our country. However, 420,000 have already returned.
Concluding her statement, Ms. Kerameus stated that the Ministry of Labor and Social Security continues to work with consistency, planning and collective effort.
“With a basic orientation of usefulness to society, it seeks every day to help citizens find work and businesses find employees, because work is not only a right, it is dignity, it is creation, it is life,” added the Minister.
Following the event, two discussion panels were held, during which citizens, who were either looking for work or looking for opportunities for a new career path or who returned to Greece, shared their positive experience from their participation in the events of the Ministry of Labor and the DYPA and emphasized their contribution to their professional development.
