The news of the double murder of 39-year-old Greek-Australian woman Athina Georgopoulou and her 50-year-old partner, Andrew Gunn, on Monday night has shocked Australia, with authorities arresting 34-year-old homeless Ross Judd.

The 34-year-old was taken to court today on charges of manslaughter, with Australian media reporting that he was smiling and calm to the point that when he stumbled entering the courtroom, he said, "I stumbled, I'm fine."

The police officers who have taken over the case have asked for a 10-day deadline to gather more evidence, as they pointed out that Georgopoulou was five months pregnant and expecting a girl.

After the crime, he went for a burger

Judd was arrested four hours after the double murder in Melbourne, at 01:40 on Tuesday morning, at Westall station, about 6 kilometers from the scene of the crime. He had two large dogs with him and, according to the authorities, he knew the victims.

According to the channel 7news.com.au, about 40 minutes after the double crime, the motive for which has not yet been clarified, the 34-year-old went to a fast food restaurant to eat a burger.

A customer described seeing Judd enter barefoot with his two dogs, two German shepherds. Fifteen minutes later and after having ordered two cheeseburgers and a soft drink, the 34-year-old left, leaving the two dogs behind.

Neighbors discovered the couple

A neighbor of the house where Georgopoulou and her partner lived described hearing a fight and shouting as well as constant barking from dogs on Monday night.

According to her, the couple fought often so they initially didn’t pay much attention. However, her roommate went out to see if he could help and then saw a man walking away in an unknown direction.

When he approached the house, he noticed the two bodies and some graffiti with phrases such as “U R Gay,” “Enough is Enough,” “Betrayal” and “Karma,” which had been written in yellow-green and black paint on fences and walls, and is being investigated to see if they are related to the crime.

When he saw Gunn's head impaled on a tree, "he initially mistook it for a STOP sign before realizing it was a severed head."

Athina Georgopoulou's mother's farewell is moving

Athina Georgopoulou could not wait to become a mother. "She was so happy because she didn't think she could have a child," her aunt, Patti Dilveridi, told the Herald Sun, adding that she had spoken to her two days earlier and had heard her happy.

Georgopoulou was caring for her mother while working in customer service departments for electricity and insurance companies.

In a Facebook post, the 39-year-old's mother, Petty Georgopoulou, wrote about her daughter: "My dear, you left this life so unjustly that I still can't believe it. In the last few days you were so happy - we were making dreams together about my little granddaughter that you would bring into your life. And suddenly, everything was erased in one night, when an [alleged] murderer cut the thread of your life and the life of my granddaughter that you would bring into the world in four months. No matter how much we were separated, I will never stop loving you. Forever. Until we meet again, my little girl, in the light of angels."
