Florida: 58-year-old Christina Theodosiou was killed in a golf cart accident driven by her husband

Featured Florida: 58-year-old Christina Theodosiou was killed in a golf cart accident driven by her husband

A 58-year-old Florida woman has died after being involved in a golf cart accident involving her 64-year-old husband.

Christina Theodosiou was out for a ride in Nokati, Florida, on the evening of November 30, with her husband, Angelos Theodosiou, when she fell from the golf cart and hit her head on the sidewalk. She was taken to a nearby hospital but succumbed to her injuries the next day, according to an arrest report obtained by Law & Crime.

Investigators noted that Theodosiou’s eyes were “red and watery and his pupils had red sclera.” Officers who arrived on the scene could also smell “an odor of alcohol” on him “from about three feet away in an open area.”

At the scene, the 64-year-old refused to complete a standard field sobriety test. He also refused to submit to a breathalyzer test.

The 58-year-old’s husband is “devastated”

Authorities noted that the next day he “repeatedly asked what was going on and why he had been arrested.” His lawyer, L. Lee Lockett, said the widower is “devastated” and insists on his innocence, arguing that he was not under the influence of alcohol on the night of the accident. “He is devastated,” Lockett told the St. John’s Citizen.

Angelo Theodosiou was charged with driving under the influence and refusing to submit to a police check. He was released on bail the day after his arrest.

Residents of the popular retirement destination told Law and Crime that they believed a newly opened greenway was bound to cause an accident sooner or later, as it has created more congestion. Some have reported collisions between golf carts and electric bicycles.

It is noted that Angelo Theodosiou previously owned the Jackson House Restaurant in Jackson Heights, Queens, with his brother.
