Koutsokoumnis: "I am sorry, the news are bad for greek football"

  • Written by

"We spoke about Minister's decision to interrupt the Greek Cup and some other legal issues, FIFA pointed out the ways he violated football's self-administration. He asks for some action against Hellenic Football Federation's corruption in order to allow the competition to be continued, but we can not agree to that, our deadline is the 1st of April.

The meeting between Deputy Minister Stavros Kontonis, the Hellenic Football Federation, FIFA and UEFA just ended without an agreement between all sides."We will inform the Disciplinary Committee of FIFA about what happened and they will take the final decisions, from my experience the news are bad for greek football and will be very difficult since April.

Maybe we could have accepted a decision by the Minister for the interruption of all greek competitions because of violence, but not especially for the Greek Cup. He has to let it start again, there are some other measures such as the final to be hosted behind closed doors, or with foreign referees.

Mr Kontonis seems positive about these, but insists to see some action from HFF, I hope they will have another week of notice to change their minds but I am afraid this will not happened.

Greece National Team and the Greek officials will face the consequences and the country will lose one Europa League place", stated the Cypriot representative of FIFA Kostakis Koutsokoumnis after the meeting, raising fears about a possible "GREXIT" of greek clubs from european competitions.

Stavros Kontonis asked for the punishment of Hellenic Football Federation's president Giorgos Girtzikis and the five members who are criminally accused, in order for referees' mistaken decisions in favor of the same team to be ended. He also asked for immediate action from Ethics Committee and made clear that he is not interested in Greek Cup and not afraid of a possible "GREXIT".

"This is the current opinion of greek football's officials, we are waiting to see what will happen in the future, the State of Council is a different case. Sports' self-administration is something coming from FIFA and UEFA, I could have solved the problem if I was the one responsible but I am not", said the president of Hellenic Football Federation Giorgos Girtzikis.
