The resumption of the promotion of Greece to the British public after the lifting of restrictive travel measures due to the pandemic was marked by the presentation of Astypalea and Alonissos in London, on Thursday, March 3, 2022, which took place at the residence of Greek Ambassador Ioannis Raptakis.

The event was co-organized by the Embassy of Greece and the EOT Office of the United Kingdom & Ireland with the invited delegations of the Municipalities of Alonissos and Astypalea. The presentation greeted by the Greek Ambassador Mr. Raptakis, was attended by selected British journalists, travel agents, Tour Operators and specialists in alternative forms of tourism.

The need to promote special tourist products of Greece such as Alonissos and Astypalea was underlined by the Head of the EOT Office Eleni Skarveli. The Municipality of Alonissos was represented by the Mayor Petros Vafinis and the member of the Tourism Committee Costas Efstathiou, who presented all the possibilities of the destination as well as the first underwater museum of Greece in the shipwreck of Peristera. The delegation of the Municipality of Astypalea consisted of the Mayor Nikos Komineas, the Municipal Councilor Vlassis Lapatas and the special associate Costas Kampilis.

Mr. Komineas referred to the range of options offered by the “Butterfly of the Aegean” and emphasized the pioneering project of transforming Astypalea into an island – a model for sustainability. Dozens of participants in the event had the opportunity to taste traditional Greek dishes and local delicacies from Alonissos and Astypalea.

Regarding the event, Ms. Skarveli said: “We warmly thank Ambassador Mr. Raptakis for hosting the event and his support in the effort to promote Greek Tourism. The enthusiastic response of the participants in the targeted presentation of special forms of tourism of the Municipalities of Alonissos and Astypalea reflects the interest of the British market for Greece, under the adverse conditions we are experiencing “.
