The new digital application for Greek tourism "mAiGreece" was presented today by the Minister of Tourism, Olga Kefalogianni and the Minister of Digital Governance, Dimitris Papastergiou in the auditorium of the National Gallery "Onassis Foundation" to the accredited journalists of the Ministries.

"mAiGreece" is a Digital Assistant, which with the use of Artificial Intelligence will act as a personalized travel "companion" for all visitors to the country. It aims to provide them with all the information they need to enjoy their stay in Greece.

It is an easy-to-use application, which will go live on June 10, 2024. Travelers will be able to chat with “mAiGreece” by submitting their question in natural language, written or spoken. Using geo-location technology (GPS) "mAiGreece" will offer information depending on the area in which the visitors are located.

Users will be able to create a profile on "mAiGreece", in which they will declare the categories they are interested in, for example arts, beaches and others, so that they also receive the information according to their preferences. It will also include visual media, which will facilitate the understanding of information about iconic sights and destinations of the country.

More specifically, "mAiGreece" includes information on attractions, museums, archaeological sites, blue flag beaches, hospitals and health centers, police stations, embassies and consulates of foreign countries, as well as the content of visitgreece.gr. In addition, it will have an emergency function via the 112 button, which will send a message (SMS) to the operations center of the Ministry of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection with the geographical location of the sender.

"mAiGreece" supports 31 languages, including the 24 official languages of the EU. as well as Albanian, Chinese, Japanese, Turkish, Hebrew, Arabic and Korean. This ensures that visitors can easily navigate and explore Greece's rich tourism product in their own language.

It is worth noting that for visitors to Greece, mobile phone providers have been asked to receive a text message (SMS) on their mobile phone with a link, which will refer them to the application, upon entering the country. "mAiGreece" will be available for free for mobile devices such as mobile phones and tablets through the App Store and Play Store. The connection to the application will be made with the visitor's Google, Apple or Facebook account.

It should be noted that for the implementation of the project, resources financed by the Recovery and Resilience Fund have been utilized, which are intended to strengthen the digital transformation of the country. They relate to a contract of the YPsiD for cloud services, and it is monitored by the Information Society (KtP MAE).

The project was implemented by OTE, Accenture and UBITECH, while the technology provider is Microsoft with Azure Open AI technology.

"mAiGreece" was designed using state-of-the-art technologies based on artificial intelligence and cloud computing models and was implemented in accordance with the Microsoft Responsible AI Standard ensuring, among other things, transparency, equality and respect for user privacy and protection of personal data (GDPR).
