New York City citizen's ombudswoman Leticia James expressed her esteem for the Greek community and her support for reform of immigration law
Ms James participated in the festivities of the Agios Nikolaos parish in Flushing where she called the Greek community one of the most active ethnic minorities of New York.
Speaking to New Greek TV, Ms James commented on the reform of the immigration law that bears beneficial work related articles for Greeks and Cypriots that want to work in the US, with conditions that both countries fulfill, and under the condition that they will have the ability to teach their native language in schools for some hours every week.
In any event, legal immigration for employment is a difficult issue, while conditions for an “inivtation” for5 employment are far more stringent than in the past. This, as a result has meant that many Greeks and Cypriots arrive on tourist visas and end up wiorking illegally with the ever real threat of deportation.
The positions of Ms James are in total harmony with those of New York mayor Bill de Blasio.
