French frigate replica sailing for Boston celebrations

In 1781, the three-masted frigate Hermione crossed the Atlantic under the orders of the commander Louis-René-Madeleine le Vassor Latouche Treville. Two hundred and thirty-six years later, the sailors of the frigate Latouche-Treville always maintain the historic link between the two ships of the same name, through the same crew spirit and a reenactment of that mission.

Lieutenant Commander Yann Cariou, a former naval officer, took command of the frigate Hermione and its 1500 m2 of sail, under the eyes of the President of the French Republic. In the coming days, he will captain the ship and its 80 crew members, to the United States, tracing the route of the Marquis de La Fayette aboard the Hermione in 1781 to Boston to win the War of Independence.

The anti-submarine warfare frigate Latouche Treville participated in the festivities of the departure of the replica of the frigate Hermione that sailed Saturday, April 18, 2015 for the United States.

The frigate Latouche Treville is named after the commander of Hermione who led the historic mission of 1780. Its presence recalls the formal commitment of France in the American War of Independence and the decisive part played by the French Navy to fight for American independence.

The Navy is a partner of the Hermione project. Four of his sailors and the crew of the integrated Hermione will participate in this Atlantic crossing. Yann Cariou, Hermione commander, the distant successor of Latouche-Treville, has served more than thirty years in the French Navy.
Today, cooperation between the French and the US Navies relies on both a shared history and an agreement and mutual understanding, reinforced by the joint commitments in foreign theaters, as in the Persian Gulf currently.
