Featured Trump: US-Greece relations are stronger than ever - The Vertical Corridor will strengthen the region's energy security

The assessment that bilateral relations between Washington and Athens “have never been stronger” was expressed by United States President Donald Trump during the ceremony of presenting credentials by the new Greek ambassador to the United States, Antonis Alexandridis.

According to information, Mr. Trump described Greece as a valuable partner and ally of the United States, noting that there are significant possibilities for further deepening cooperation in areas such as shipping, trade, energy and investment.

The American president stated that the friendship between Greece and the United States is “strong, historic and based on a shared democratic and spiritual heritage”, noting that he looks forward to further strengthening bilateral relations.

“Greece on track to spend 5% of GDP on defense”
Mr. Trump referred to Greece’s progress toward achieving NATO’s 5% of GDP defense spending goal, noting that Athens is demonstrating “real leadership” within the Alliance. “Peace is secured through strength,” he emphasized.

In the energy sector, he made special reference to American liquefied natural gas exports and the so-called Vertical Corridor, estimating that the related infrastructure projects will enhance the energy security of the wider region.

At the same time, he expressed his appreciation for the courage that, as he said, Greece showed by choosing to abstain from the adoption, by the International Maritime Organization, of the net zero emissions framework. In this context, he spoke of a regulation that would burden consumers, businesses and global trade

He referred to the prospects for strengthening cooperation in the shipbuilding industry, including talks on the construction of American frigates in Greece, as well as the expansion of bilateral relations in the fields of trade and investment.

The US President finally asked Mr. Alexandridis to convey his warm greetings to Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis.
