Massive Fire Erupts in Long Island, NY

  • Written by

Seaford, Long Island suffered an enormous fire today at Island Recreation Pool Supplies, causing the neighboring Hagedorn Little Village School for special needs children to contain its students and prompted area evacuations.

Evacuations were mandated due to a chemical and chlorine outbreak. A couple of other businesses in the same mini-mall were also desecrated.

Firefighters from twelve different departments were able to control the fire by 5:00 p.m., with various after effects. In its most active state, the flames threw gigantic masses of surging, black smoke into the South Shore. One observer commented,"It covered up the whole road – like I was coming down this way, and I had to stop, because you couldn't see. It was black, it was puffy, and it was huge".

After proper air testing, Hagedorn Little Village School was dismissed for the day. Luckily today's New York wind blew the fire up, rather than sit in the region's atmosphere. The cause of the flames is still being investigated, but is thought to have initially ignited in Island Recreation Pool Supplies' ceiling.
