Bloomberg Pledges Gun Safety Campaign $50 Million

  • Written by

New York City's former Mayor Michael Bloomberg has pledged $50 million dollars, in support of stricter gun laws.

According to WCBS 880, the new firearm control campaign will focus on candidates who are in favor of stronger gun mandates, and will be granted money. Bloomberg's new program is coined "Everytown for Gun Safety". He explains, "To make sure that we reward those who are protecting lives and make sure that those who are trying to keep people from being protected lose elections".

The former Mayor intends to spend $50 million dollars on gun-related political actions, while the NRA spends $20 million dollars annually. Bloomberg added, "This is not a battle of dollars, this is a battle for the hearts and minds of America so that we can protect our children, protect innocent people...People will vote for whatever they think is in their own self interest to get elected and re-elected". His goal is to keep guns away from individuals who should never have one in their possession.

Michael Bloomberg is one of the founding members of Mayors Against Illegal Guns. In Tuesday's New York Times interview concerning his gun-control campaign, he claimed, "I am telling you if there is a God, when I get to Heaven I'm not stopping to be interviewed. I am heading straight in. I have earned my place in Heaven. It's not even close".
