Cyprus Requests EU Agricultural & Fisheries Ministerial Meeting Regarding Russian Embargo
The Republic of Cyprus has called for an EU Agriculture and Fisheries Ministerial meeting, concerning the effects of the Russian embargo on food items produced by member nations.
Cypriot Government Spokesperson Nicos Christodoulides confirmed that the Cypriot Minister of Agriculture Nicos Kougialis penned the request to the Italian EU Presidency and European Commissioner. In Christodoulides' statement describing the appeal, he stated, "The goal is to commonly assess the situation after the ban on EU products by Russia".
Christodoulides further described that in its written request, the Cypriot government focused on the urgency of actions to take place as soon as possible, so as to combat the adverse effects on EU economies. The Cypriot spokesman also stated that the EU must analyze the repercussions on both a collective and individual state level, with special consideration to each member's individual situation.
