Cypriot government Spokesman Nicos Christodoulides released a written statement regarding the vessel's scheduled voyage in the Exclusive Economic Zone and stated, "our side is fully committed to the procedure to solve the Cyprus issue, a procedure that is at a critical phase and is looking for ways to overcome the obstacles".
The Spokesman further commented, "In this state of affairs, the last thing one would expect from Turkey is a repetition of the provocations by Barbaros vessel in the Cyprus Republic's EEZ". The ship plans to administer surveys in the Cypriot waters between August 24th to October 2nd.
Christodoulides added of the act, "violate international law and are contrary to Turkey's obligations as part of its negotiations for accession to the EU". He concluded that the Republic of Cyprus, "will denounce Turkey's provocative and illegal actions to the UN, the EU and wherever else is necessary". This marks the first time the Turkish vessel will visit the illegal occupied Karpass peninsula region.
