Cyprus Anticipates Strong EU Stance Over Turkey
Cypriot Government Spokesman Nikos Christodoulides confirmed that the nation anticipates a strong stance by the EU, regarding Turkey's relative noncompliance acts, through the European Commission's Turkish progress report.
The EC progress report on Turkey is scheduled to be published on October 8th, and is currently being finalized, according to Christodoulides. The Government Spokesman further commented that Cyprus has kept the European Commission up-to-date, regarding all Turkish activities related to the island.
Christodoulides stated, "Turkey has a series of obligations to fulfill but unfortunately, especially as regards its obligations for Cyprus, there has been no progress. In this regard we expect that a strict message will be sent (from the Commission)", according to Parikiaki. Cyprus has been an EU member since May 2004 and is the only nation that is occupied by an illegal military force.
