U.S. Ambassador to Greece David D. Pearce held meetings with the nation's new administration, including Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras, Deputy Prime Minister Yannis Dragasakis, Minister of Foreign Affairs Nikos Kotzias, Finance Minister Yanis Varoufakis, and Economy, Infrastructure, Shipping and Tourism Minister Giorgos Stathakis.

The U.S. Department of Treasury Deputy Assistant Secretary Daleep Singh participated in relevant meetings with Greek Ministers Dragasakis, Varoufakis, and Stathakis. Daleep, who has been to Greece in the past, traveled to Athens to meet the country's new leaders.

During the sessions, the U.S. Ambassador examined vital regional and bilateral concerns with the Greek administration. Pearce discussed America's stance that Greece must maintain structural and administrative revisions, while operating fiscal caution. The Ambassador acknowledged the considerable sacrifices that have been placed upon the people of Greece.

Pearce also discussed needed reforms that will make foreign investments in Greece more lucrative. The U.S. Ambassador stated, "The United States believes that it is very important for the Greek government to work cooperatively with its European colleagues, as well as with the IMF," according to the U.S. Embassy in Athens.

The Ambassador referred to the close bilateral ties between Greece and the United States, and their vital security and defense collaborations. Pearce mentioned his nation's gratitude for Greece's activities that support NATO and Mediterranean stability. The U.S. Ambassador to Greece restated that the United States hopes that Greece exits from its lengthy financial crisis, and maintains its consistent position in the region.
