UN Special Advisor On Cyprus Holds Meetings With Greek-Cypriot & Turkish-Cypriot Leaders
United Nations Secretary General's Special Advisor on Cyprus Espen Barth Eide is on an official trip to Cyprus this week.
The UN Special Advisor has scheduled meetings with both Cypriot President Nicos Anastasiades and Turkish-Cypriot chief Dervis Eroglu, concerning efforts to reignite UN approved discussions.
Eide arrived on the island yesterday and will meet the President of the Republic of Cyprus today, followed by a major press conference. The UN expert also plans to hold meetings with Greek-Cypriot negotiator Andreas Mavrogiannis and Turkish-Cypriot negotiator Ergün Olgun.
Cypriot President Anastasiades withdrew from peace talk participations last fall, after Turkey's seismic research ship Barbaros illegally entered its Exclusive Economic Zone.
The Greek-Cypriots have cautioned that if Turkey repeats its violations, the South will be forced to once again, cease its solution negotiations. Barbaros stopped its violations in the EEZ, as the NAVTEX concluded on Monday.
