UN Advisor On Cyprus & Moderators Discuss Divide
UN Secretary General's Special Advisor on Cyprus Espen Barth Eide and Greek-Cypriot and Turkish-Cypriot moderators held a meeting, concerning the island's divide.
Greek-Cypriot Andreas Mavroyiannis and Turkish-Cypriot Ozdil Nami served as the negotiators with the working group on EU issues, under the UN-authorized peace discussions. Eide posted on twitter earlier, "today, Ozdil Nami, Andreas Mavroyiannis and I are meeting with the Working Group on EU matters".
On September 1st and 14th, Republic of Cyprus President Nicos Anastasiades and Turkish-Cypriot chief Mustafa Akinci are scheduled to next meet. Negotiations will continue to take place between the premier's discussions. Cyprus has been illegally divided for 41 years, as Turkey has occupied 37% of the northern territory of the island.
