Yemen Strikes Al-Qaeda Militants

  • Written by

Over sixty-five Al-Qaeda suspects have been killed in Yemen since Saturday, as reported by sate officials.

An terrorist targeting operation has been implemented in the Yemeni provinces of Shabwa and Abyan, according to CNN. The extent of the mission is: "massive and unprecedented".

Yemeni troops acquired the dead bodies and DNA tests will be administered to identify the predicted terrorists. SABA news agency reported that the fighters were: "...preparing to launch attacks against Yemeni and foreign interests in the area...These strikes destroyed the training facility completely and killed both Yemeni and foreign members".

A top-level governmental head from Yemen claimed that yesterday's raid collaborated with the United States. The official would not affirm if drones were administered, while U.S. officials never comment on strikes of this nature.

However, other Yemeni officials aren't so confident. One explained, "I'm worried this is an attempt to convince Yemenis that the U.S. and Yemen have turned a corner and are in the process of destroying AQAP...At this hour, the numbers of militants being reported as being killed keeps changing, and we still aren't sure if any civilians have been killed or wounded in these strikes."

As of today, U.S. air and drone attacks have killed approximately 753 to 965 people in Yemen. The New American Foundation's analysis determined that most of the deaths involved militants, however 81 or more have been civilian causalities.
