North Korea Holds U.S. Citizen in Custody
An American citizen is being held in custody in North Korea, as the nation claims the man arrived earlier this month to pursue asylum.
The country's state news agency KCNA revealed that the man's name is Miller Matthew Todd and he was taken into custody on April 10th.
As reported by the state news agency, the American arrived in the country via a tourist visa. After entering North Korea, Todd destroyed his visa and exclaimed of his desired destination that, "...he would seek asylum".
The revelations arrive on the same day of U.S. President Obama's visit to South Korea. The Northern territory's Foreign Ministry condemned the American President's trip as: "...aimed to escalate confrontation and bring dark clouds of a nuclear arms race".
The White House has been communicating with Sweden, who serves as the ambassador of American interests in the nation, after hearing about the declaration, as confirmed by U.S. State Department Press Secretary Jen Psaki. The Secretary added that the United States has "no greater priority" than the safety and well-being of its citizens.
