Cypriot President Anastasiades Hospitalized
Cypriot President Nicos Anastasiades was hospitalized yesterday, for gastroenteritis.
Doctors have assured the public that his case is not serious. Dr. Savvas Kadis spoke to the media yesterday afternoon, with Government Spokesman Nikos Christodoulides in attendance. The President's acting physician stated, "...at noon today the President was admitted to Aretaieio Hospital with symptoms of gastroenteritis which he suffered during the past few days...As symptoms persisted, it was decided that the President be admitted to hospital for supportive therapy".
The Government Spokesman stated that President Anastasiades continues to perform his duties from the hospital. Regarding the upcoming scheduled negotiation meeting between the North and the South, UNFICYP announced, "...in view of the hospitalization of Greek Cypriot Leader Nicos Anastasiades, the meeting between Mr. Anastasiades and Turkish Cypriot Leader Derviş Eroğlu which was to take place on Monday 23rd June at the United Nations Good Offices Mission in Cyprus has been postponed."
