UN Starts UNFICYP Resolution Meetings
Last night, discussions started regarding the British draft resolution on the UN Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus, at Manhattan’s United Nations headquarters, according to reports.
CNA stated that the UNFICYP dialogue is being presented in a positive environment, while different propositions have been brought to the table by United Nations Security Council permanent and nonpermanent members.
It has been predicted that an agreement will be drafted by Friday. During a teleconference, UNSG Special Representative in Cyprus Lisa Buttenheim will address parties on Thursday.
July 30th marks the date when a meeting will convene regarding the adoption of a resolution. Last Sunday, July 20th, marked the 40th year since Turkey illegally invaded the northern part of Cyprus.
