Buttenheim Briefs UNSC Regarding Cyprus
The United Nations Security Council was briefed by Special Representative of the Secretary General in Cyprus Lisa Buttenheim through a teleconference today, according to reports.
Buttenheim offered a positive analysis concerning the discussions and the UNFICYP mission. According to UN delegates, the Special Representative of the Secretary General in Cyprus informed the UNSC about the dialogue held between the two leaders in Cyprus, and that the second phase of discussions have been concluded.
Buttenheim commented that the two sides must establish a procedure to further efforts. She also spoke of military confidence-building endeavors. UNSC members declared their commitment to the UNFICYP, the UN and Buttenheim. Western nations also voiced their support for posting a permanent special advisor to the Secretary General on Cyprus.
