UN Admits Mistake Over Northern Cyprus Terminology
Cyprus has stated its disapproval to the United Nations, concerning the terms "Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus" and "Turkish Cypriot police", that were used in a UNFICYP document, according to reports.
The document was titled "UNPOL- Sector One – Operational Order – Pilgrimage to Kokkina Area", that focuses on the UN Police in Cyprus and was dated July 31st.
Government spokesman Nicos Christodoulides stated to CNA that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs: "made today strong representations to UNFICYP" Senior Advisor Lynn Hastings, as reported by Parikiaki.
Christodoulides confirmed that the UN admitted its mistake over the terms used and coined the instance "unfortunate". The Cypriot spokesman commented that the UN's terminology was an "unacceptable mistake".
