In the first five months of 2014, the central government of Greece held a 711 million euro primary budget excess, in comparison to a 970 million euro deficit in last year's same timeframe, as confirmed by Deputy Finance Minster Christos Staikouras today.

In March, Greece's current account deficit significantly decreased compared to last year's same time period, as reported today by the Central Bank.

Greece is showing the highest debt in the EU of the 28 with debt reaching 156.9% of GDP, in 2012, according to Eurostat.
