Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis attended a naturalization ceremony on Thursday afternoon, held at the Maximos Mansion government seat, for Veronica and Emeka-Alex Antetokounmpo, the mother and youngest brother, respectively, of NBA superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo.

Greek citizenship was officially given to the famous author, Victoria Hislop, who was introduced to the Greek public through the bestseller "The Island" which was also broadcast on Greek television.

Refugees will need to live in Greece for seven consecutive years – instead of the current three – before qualifying for Greek citizenship, under an amendment tabled in Parliament by the Interior Ministry on Thursday.

The seven-year prerequisite is currently applied to all applicants except refugees.
