The new HBO series, True Detective, which premiered on Jan 12, follows two detectives played by Woody Harrelson and a brilliant Matthew McConaughey. Set in Louisiana, with striking imagery, hauntingly poetic dialogue, and a cloud of mystery, as the hunt for a serial killer is under way. With both an intriguing plot and deep character development, we're left wondering which is more mysterious, the crime they are trying to solve or the characters themselves?
These detectives are two very laid back ticking time bombs and it's hard to sit still with its slow-ish methodical pace, as you expect them to explode at any moment. Whatever the outcome of this 8 episode anthology, one could almost expect it will be messier than anticipated. Full of suspense, this is a definite must watch for those who enjoy a series with a darker tone. A scene at the church at the end of the second episode is enough to keep you hooked. That plus McConaughey's epic facial hair should be enough to hold your interest. The show took a week off last Sunday, but returns tonight.
