Wildfire Threatens Southwestern Greece
A southern village near Messinia has been evacuated due to a large fire outbreak in the region.
Nine firefighting helicopters and planes are dumping water over the flames that are engulfing the Mavromati village, where approximately 300 individuals reside. The area is located about 200 kilometers southwest of the nation's capital.
The fire is gaining size due to large winds in the region, while over 70 firefighters and fire fighting mechanisms are battling the blaze. Greek officials have confirmed that Messinia and its museum are not currently threatened by the wildfire.
