EU Aids Greek Forest Fires
The EU Civil Protection Mechanism to fight forest fires will assist Greece, after the nation asked for help concerning blazes erupting in the central region of the nation.
France has already sent two fire-fighting aircrafts, that will reach the area by this afternoon. An active Kalabaka forest fire is currently erupting, that ignited on August 24th, destroying about 400 hectares of earth. Additionally, Greece has mobilized European Commission satellite operations.
The EU Emergency Response and Coordination Centre (EERC) constantly monitors forest fire hazards spanning Europe. It administers EFFIS (the European Forest Fire Information System), national surveillance systems, and satellite images to analyze the European environment. In the summer season, the EERC schedules a weekly videoconference, that includes national fire authorities from nations suffering the largest risk of wildfires.
