The significant rise in tourism in Athens and the strategy of the municipality towards this end was the focus of a speech by Athens mayor Giorgos Kaminis , during the inauguration of the Black Sea Tourism Forum & Workshop.
The first day of proceedings, that took place at the Acropolis Museum, were attended by 40 select Hosted Buyers (officials and reps of large tour operators, tourist bureaus, etc) from abroad (Russia, Ukraine, Romania, Turkey, Azerbaijan, Lithuania, among others).
The foreign tourism officials had meetings with 90 Greek tourism agents and providers, making about a thousand b2b contacts.
The event is a joint initiative of the City of Athens and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) under the coordination of the Development and Tourism Promotion Company of the Municipality of Athens (EATA) as well as the Athens Convention & Visitors Bureau (ACVB).
