What is the international future of Greek football?

FIFA and UEFA have sent a joint letter to the Greek Football Federation warning that if the government moves ahead with proposed sports legislation it will be constitute an unacceptable level of state interference in football.

The Hellenic Football Federation (EPO) has already protested the draft legislation saying that the changes that it would implement would threaten the independence of the organization.

FIFA and UEFA appear to agree. After the issue was brought to the attention of the two international organizations by EPO, they responded saying that if the law is passed then it would represent an unacceptable level of state involvement in football, violating the principle of self-governance that the organizations are keen to defend.

The letter will be passed on the Deputy Minister for Sports Giannis Andrianos. It is also possible that UEFA and FIFA will send delegations to Greece to pressure the government over the proposed legislation.
