While Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras was speaking at the 14th Regional Conference of the North Aegean, in Mytilene, there were protest marches in which the inhabitants of the island of Lesvos were involved.
According to local media, the demonstration was unprecedented for the island, as many as 3,000 protesters.
In a protest outside the courtyard of the General Secretariat of the Aegean, where Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras spoke at the 14th Regional Conference on Production Reconstruction in Mytilene, tensions between protestors and police prevailed at some point.
Protesters tried to break the police cordon and go to where Tsipra's speech was underway to deliver a resolution to the Prime Minister, but they were pushed back by police forces. Protesters responded with flares, but spirits calmed down through the intervention of calmer voices.
Shortly afterwards, new, serious episodes unfolded in front of Customs House of Mytilene, according to lesvospost. The incidents occurred between a group of youths and police forces.
The young people tried to reach the General Secretariat of the Aegean and Island Policy, where the prime minister's speech was underway, but were dealt with by the police forces that used tear gas and pepper spray.
