The City of Athens is making plans to usher in a new decade with a bang, with a live show and fireworks in Syntagma Square. Athens residents and visitors can greet 2020 and bid farewell to 2019 at a spectacle that begins in the city's central square at 22:00 on Tuesday and continues through the night, featuring a magic show, music, dancing, a light show and fireworks display, among others.
The hosts for the evening will be Themis Georgantas and Nadia Boule, while Athens Mayor Kostas Bakoyannis will be called onto the stage for the countdown to midnight. The band "Melisses" and their front man Christos Mastoras will be providing the music, with guest appearances by Ivi Adamou, Demy and Josephin and the award-winning gymnastics team Wolves.
