The marine units of national health service EODY are now in full operation, aiming to locate cases of coronavirus in the Greek islands very quickly.
The EODY "floating" units received the signal to start the inspections on Monday, May 25, and tests have already been carried out in Kimolos and Sikinos. EODY, evaluating the specificity of the Greek geographical distribution and the difficulties of communication with the dozens of islands, concluded a cooperation agreement with the "AMKE Symposium" for conducting tests on small and isolated Aegean islands.
The plan stipulates that the "Conflict" with its inflatables and crews will transport the EODY squads from Attica to each island that will be decided, to perform diagnostic tests for the detection of the SARS-CoV-2 virus. The examinations will be carried out jointly with the doctors and the volunteers of the group and always based on the EODY protocol. All doctors and nurses who go to the islands will be tested first for COVID-19.
Then "Symplefsi" will transfer the EODY groups and the biological samples that were collected and packaged properly in the collaborating laboratories in Attica. As part of the cooperation, samples will be transported from tests for COVID-19, whenever needed, from the Aegean islands to Attica by the team.
