Thessaloniki: Woman mauled to death in her yard by neighbor's dogs

The 37-year-old owner of the dogs that mauled the 50-year-old mother of two children in the yard of her house, in Thessaloniki, will be brought to the prosecutor's office this morning, on the charge of manslaughter.

grek police announced yesterday that the 37-year-old had been arrested earlier and was being held at the Oreokastro police station, while he will appear before the prosecutor on the charge of negligent homicide in combination with a violation of the Animal Legislation, while he was also imposed the prescribed administrative fine.

The three pit bulls bit the woman to death in the yard of her house where she went out to do some chores just before 2pm on Sunday.

How the dogs attacked the unfortunate 50-year-old
The unfortunate 50-year-old was doing gardening work at noon on Sunday (10/12), when suddenly the dogs escaped from their owner's supervision, and crossing at least 50 meters, entered the woman's yard and attacked her.

According to information from ERT, there was also a gardener helping her, but at that moment he was behind the fence and due to hearing and speech problems he did not realize the attack on the 50-year-old.

The two sons of the unfortunate woman, 17 and 18 years old, were in the house at the time. As soon as they heard the voices, they went outside but it was already late. The 50-year-old had already passed away as soon as the EL.AS men and EKAV rescuers arrived at the scene.

The arrested owner of the dogs gave a statement yesterday at the Oriokastro police station, who will be taken to the prosecutor this morning.

50-year-old friend: "These dogs are known in the area and are wild".
A friend of the 50-year-old, shocked by the terrifying incident, said that "the dogs are dominant, wild according to the confession of the residents here."

He continued saying: "It was on a stable and he brought them here because the house is alone and immigrants came in and stole it, they had them to protect the plot and the house and that's how they escaped."

Ex-spouse of 50-year-old woman: "It's not the first time the dogs have escaped"
The ex-husband of the 50-year-old said that "dogs escaped from the neighbor, three huge, wild ones". "The ex-wife was pruning inside, we are separated, the gardener was outside, the man is deaf and dumb. They got in, they were eating her. Three ambulances came, performed CPR but did not save her. The dogs are from home. They have left many times and chased people many times, it is not the first time," he added.
