Off-duty police officer stabbed to death while attempting to break up fight in bar

A police officer was killed during an altercation at 4:30 on Thursday morning at a late-night bar on Katsimidi Street in Thessaloniki. The 32-year-old police officer, who was off duty at the time, was stabbed with a knife by a 44-year-old Norwegian, who was arrested on the spot.
According to eye witnesses, both the Norwegian and the police officer were customers at the bar. The 44-year-old started a fight and attacked the police officer when he attempted to intervene, inflicting fatal injuries.
The Norwegian remains in custody and will be led before a public prosecutor.
