The entire Spanish royal family bid farewell to Princess Irene in Madrid - They will travel to Athens for the final "farewell"

The final “goodbye” to Princess Irene, who died at the age of 83, was said by the Spanish royal family and members of the former Greek royal family.
According to Hola, Princess Irene’s body was transferred today to the Greek Orthodox Metropolis of Saints Andrew and Demetrius in Madrid.
Queen Sofia, heading to the church, received messages of support and applause from passers-by. She entered the church hand-in-hand with her granddaughter and heir to the throne, Princess Leonor, and left almost two hours later hand-in-hand with her son, as reported by El Pais.
King Felipe of Spain and Queen Letizia, along with Princess Leonor, Infanta Sofia and Queen Sofia, Infanta Elena, with her daughter Victoria Federica, and Infanta Cristina, with her children Irene, Pablo and Miguel, accompanied by their cousin, Princess Alexia, with her husband, Carlos Morales Quintana, and their children, Arrieta and Carlos Morales.
Funeral service for Princess Irene to be held at the Metropolis of Athens
The body of Princess Irene will be transported by special flight to Athens, where a funeral service will be held at the Metropolis of Athens on Monday.
On the same day, Princess Irene will be buried at the Tatoi cemetery, where just three years ago she had attended, together with King Felipe, Queen Letizia and Queen Sofia, the funeral of her brother, the former King Constantine.
Queen Sofia, King Felipe and Queen Letizia, and their two daughters will travel to Athens. According to El Pais, this will be the first time that the two daughters of the Spanish royal couple will visit Greece.
Announcement of Princess Irene's funeral procession
"The funeral procession of Princess Irene will be held at 12.00 pm, on Monday, January 19, 2026, at the Metropolitan Cathedral of Athens. Burial will follow in Tatoi.
From 8:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. prior to the ceremony, the body will lie in state at the chapel of Agios Eleftherios.
The family has asked guests to make donations in lieu of wreaths to the "Friends of Music Association" or a charitable organization of their choice."
