Two people were arrested on Saturday afternoon in Thrace, as part of an operation by the Northern Greece Organized Crime Sub-Directorate, on charges of aggravated possession of a weapon.
The operation was carried out by the Department for Combating Trafficking in Human Beings and Goods, following information about people allegedly involved in the illegal import and trafficking of weapons in Greece, with recipients being criminal groups of Turkish nationals.
During the operation, the police located and immobilised a car in which one of the two accused was travelling. A travel bag with 25 pistols was found in the trunk.
According to the Hellenic Police, the weapons and their magazines were packed in transparent nylon packaging and did not bear manufacturer information or other identification marks. These are the so-called “ghost guns”.
The investigation revealed the involvement of a second person, who was arrested with the assistance of the Alexandroupolis Sub-Directorate for Prosecution and Investigation. According to the authorities, he allegedly handed over the vehicle and the weapons to the driver who was initially arrested.
