Former cabinet secretary Panayiotis Baltakos declared on a radio interview today, that Prime Minister Antonis Samaras knew nothing of his affiliation with Golden Dawn.
Baltakos was forced to terminate his position, due to a leaked video of him in intimate dialogue with Golden Dawn spokesman Ilias Kasidiaris.
Stating to Real FM, the ex-cabinet secretary stated: "The Prime Minister did not know...I was operating on my own initiative as a mediator for the good of the country. I wanted to dislodge the thousands of Greeks who had voted for Golden Dawn. The 500,000 Greeks who voted for Golden Dawn are not Nazis".
He also confessed that more videos may appear. Of his son Dimitris' supposed Parliament scuffle yesterday, Baltakos claimed,"I don't know where my son is...He is independent. He is a coast guard officer. He has a code of honor." Dimitris is currently wanted for questioning by police.
Balkatos admitted to multiple meetings with Golden Dawn last fall. However, he claimed that he lied to the extremist political party as a means of gaining confidential information from them. The departed government official declared, "For the good of the country, somebody had to meet with these people," he said. "We had to know what they were thinking, their strategies and movements. I told them what they wanted to hear so that I could win their trust". The departed cabinet secretary historically had a close working relationship with Greece's Prime Minister.
