Parliament Approves Submarine Law Amendment
Yesterday, Greek Parliament passed a law amendment, providing for the finalization of operational accession and certification protocols of the Greek Navy fleet's four brand new submarines.
PASOK, New Democracy and Democratic Left supported the revision, while SYRIZA voted as "present".
During the activity, Defense Minister Dimitris Avramopoulos stated, "...a definite end to the submarine adventure is hereby put". His comments are in reference to the issues of the four submarines, located at Skaramaga shipyards. Additionally, Avramopoulos alerted Parliament that the new underwater crafts already have manned and highly specialized crews.
Greece is requesting shipyard owners to return 360 million euros worth of payments, excessively paid between 2010-2011. The Minister added that if the funds are recovered by the state, the final price of the submarines will be significantly lower.
