Greece Supports Albanian EU Entry
The President of Parliament Vangelis Meimarakis, was invited to Tirana by his Albanian correlative Ilir Meta, where he offered positive statements towards the nation's EU entry.
Upon meeting Meta in the Albanian capital, Meimarakis stated that he wants the nation to become an official EU candidate in June. He added that Greece has consistently promoted the country's EU and NATO bids, which will lead toward growth, security and stability in the challenged Balkan region.
Meta commented on the "bridge of friendship and cooperation" binding the two neighbors, concerning the Albanian community in Greece and the Greek population in Albania. He discussed a collaboration in the energy security sector.
During his Albanian tour, Meimarakis held meetings with President Bujar Nisani, Prime Minister Edi Rama and opposition party leader Lulzim Basha. Today, the President of Parliament plans to participate in the XII Conference of the Speakers of the Parliaments of the Adriatic and Ionian Initiative, directed under the Albanian Presidency.
