Ryanair Jet Makes Emergency Landing, Athens

  • Written by

A Ryanair flight traveling to Paphos from Thessaloniki, was forced to make an emergency landing in Athens on Monday night.

Passengers destined for Paphos finally arrived in the Cypriot city last night at 9:30 p.m. Out of the 167 travelers, four remained in Athens and refused to board a Ryanair chartered flight.

One Cypriot passenger was rushed to an Athenian hospital, after suffering from a heart condition on board. The remaining three spent the night at a hotel in Athens. A mentally unstable 37-year-old Greek male was the cause of the jet's landing in Athens. He was later admitted to a phsyciatric hospital.

According to Parikiaki, a Paphos airport source stated to The Cyprus Daily: "The Irish carrier had the option to pay for a second night at the hotel or bring them back...It was not an easy decision to take because sometimes it costs more to charter a plane than pay for an additional night at a reasonably-priced hotel".
