Greek Agricultural Ministry Allocates 1.3 Million Euros for Stray Animal Shelters

  • Written by
The Greek Agriculture Ministry has reserved 1.3 million euros for the creation of animal shelters, as reported by Kathimerini and ANA-MPA.

The funds will be allocated to the nation’s municipal heads to build properties to house stray dogs and cats. Agricultural Development Minister Giorgos Karasmanis ratified the decision that was approved by the Interior and Finance Ministries.

The new stray animal efforts will gather, identify, vaccinate, spay and neuter canines and felines. It will also grant veterinary care and behavioral instructions before being available for adoption.

The Agricultural Development Minister stated: "In a difficult economic environment, we are meeting an important funding duty of the state toward municipalities, who in cooperation with animal protection groups are responsible for managing strays in the interest of the health of the public and that of domestic pets”.
