SYRIZA's Tsipras & Cypriot President Anastasiades Hold Meeting
SYRIZA leader Alexis Tsipras met with Cypriot President Nicos Anastasiades today in Athens.
After their meeting, Tsipras stated: "I had the opportunity to be briefed by the President Anastasiades on the developments in the talks. Their second round, in an effort to find a just and viable solution to the Cyprus issue, was concluded. I expressed our strong support to the efforts of the Cyprus Republic for a substantial progress in the talks to the President. However, I cannot hide my concern about the intransigence of the Turkish- Cypriot side and mainly the Turkish one, as there were no significant developments during the first two rounds," as reported by ANA-MPA.
Tsipras further commented, "I want to point out once again that the Cyprus issue - let us not forget it- is primarily an issue of invasion and 40-year occupation in the northern part of Cyprus. Therefore, the process of the solution must be in the context of a bi-zonal, bi-communal federation, based on the resolutions of the United Nations".
The SYRIZA leader added, "In this context, the key priority is for Greece and Cyprus to be a pillar of stability and security, but at the same time forces that will consistently seek the cooperation and the peaceful settlement of disputes."
