Ice skater with Cretan roots becomes world figyre skating champion

Gabriella Papadakis with her partner Guillaume Cizeron, are the winners of the 2015 figure skating world championships.
She is a French ice skater of Greek descent. The duo won also the 2015 European champion, the bronze medal at the 2014 Grand Prix Final and the 2015 French national champion. She was born on 10 May 1995 in Clermont-Ferrand, France.
Her mother, Catherine, is a skating coach. Her father lives in Texas. “My father is from Athens Greece, but his whole family comes from Crete. I knew a few phrases in Greek, but since i haven’t been in Greece for many years now, i forgot them” Gabriella said in an interview in sports newspaper “L’Equipe”.
She has been working with Guillaume since they were 9 years old, after her mother’s suggestion, who was also their trainer. She moved from France to Montreal, Quebec, Canada on 14 July 2014 with her partner, where they study and practice.
They have also won two gold medals on the Grand Prix series. Earlier in their career, they won silver at the 2012 Junior Grand Prix Final and 2013 World Junior Championships.
