Islamists Abduct Greek Orthodox Nuns in Syria

Islamist guerrillas have taken 12 Orthodox nuns into custody after seizing the monastery of Saint Thekla in Maaloula , yesterday afternoon.
According to the Apostolic Nuncio to Damascus Mgr . Mario Zenari their faith is still uncertain, who also confirmed that the nuns had been forced to leave the monastery and follow the guerrillas.
The 12 nuns of the monastery of Saint Thekla were abducted yesterday afternoon . According to AsiaNews reports , the nuns were being marched by a contingent of Islamist rebels towards Yabrud , about 80 km north of the capital.
Maaloula has been the scene of bitter fighting for the last two days, with attacks raging in the northern part of the city where the Greek Orthodox monastery of Saint Thekla is located, along with Greek Catholic monasteries dedicated to Saints Sergius and Bacchus.
