Initiative "staellinika" of the General Secretariat of Hellenes Abroad to teach Greek to diaspora children

Featured Initiative "staellinika" of the General Secretariat of Hellenes Abroad to teach Greek to diaspora children

The General Secretariat of Hellenes Abroad of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is actively involved in the efforts to preserve and spread the Greek language to the Greek community and especially to the young children of expatriate Greeks.

In order to encourage the learning of the Greek language by young children, but also to acquaint them with Greek culture and Greek mythology, GGAE collaborated for a number of months with the Hellenic Studies Center of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation at Simon Fraser University in Vancouver (Canada) and is now able to announce the launch of the online platform www.staellinika.com, which provides the opportunity for young children of our expatriates for quality distance learning of the Greek language and mythology.

As of Monday, April 27, the initial version of the platform, which has zero cost for the Greek state and is provided free of charge to the children of the Greek community, was given for use, thanks to the generous sponsorship of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation. This is an initial operational solution, prepared earlier due to the special conditions that prevail, in order to support the Greek community. The platform will be updated daily and the full version will be ready in September 2020.

As the site states:

"Rarely in its history was Hellenism bounded by borders. Greeks and Greek civilization traveled and thrived for centuries away from metropolitan Greece. Today, with all of us at home, in search of health and safety, we may still travel in our history and civilization with a new suite of apps brought to us by a collaboration between the General Secretariat for Greeks Αbroad of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Centre for Hellenic Studies at Simon Fraser University in Vancouver, Canada. The courses offered are beta versions which will be updated throughout the summer as they are prepared for full release in September.

Our apps and platform were created by a diverse team of Greek technology, education and media specialists working in from distributed environment in both Greece, Canada and the United Sates."
