The reception was graced by the presence of the President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, Mr. Theodoros Roussopoulos.
The Minister, Ms. Sofia Zacharaki, expressed her delight at the role that Greece plays in promoting women's rights within the United Nations, both within the Commission on the Status of Women and within the Security Council.
The Permanent Representative of Greece to the United Nations, Ambassador Mr. Evangelos Sekeris, welcomed the attendees and expressed his particular delight at the presence of the Minister of Social Cohesion and Family at the event.
He pointed out that the promotion of women's rights, including political, economic, educational and social rights, is a central priority for Greece. At the same time, he stressed that Greece promotes women's rights also from its position as an elected member of the Security Council for the period 2025-2026, as the Agenda for Women, Peace and Security is one of our country's priorities.
As part of the event, the sculpture "Kore" was presented, which was created by the renowned artist George Petrides. The work is inspired by ancient Greek sculptural representations of young women and the modern Greek word for daughter. The artist combined the history and culture of Greece with a personal narrative, as the work represents his daughter at the age of 12.
The message of the work is optimism and hope for the future, despite the difficulties
